Lands End to Liskeard
Perched on the rocky cliffs of Lands End marked by the popular sign, it’s time to grab the obligatory photo before your epic two-wheeled journey begins. Leaving the southernmost tip
of England, your route winds along Cornish roads heading towards Penzance passing the famous St Michael’s Mount. The terrain is undulating with a few long climbs and some short, steep ones too before arriving in Liskeard for your first night.

Accommodation: hotel (twin share basis).
Liskeard to Taunton
Today your route crosses Dartmoor, one of the most challenging sections of your journey. You’ll cycle over rolling hills into Devon and through Tavistock, where you’re greeted with a steep climb onto Dartmoor itself, towards the village of Two Bridges. If the weather is kind, the views are spectacular, though it can often be foggy in this wild part of southwest England.
There is a great descent into Postbridge, with its well-known stone Clapper Bridge, and before another climb. Once you’ve reached the small town of Moretonhampstead the hardest climbs are behind you. Phew.
The road then winds its way to the edge of Dartmoor, where it’s downhill to Exeter; where a quiet road takes you in to Taunton for a well deserved rest.
Cycling distance: approx 87 miles
Included:
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: hotel (twin share basis)
Taunton to Chepstow

Approaching the outskirts of Bristol and the Severn estuary, you’ll pedal along the Avon Gorge cycle path through Avonmouth and across the Severn Bridge marking your arrival in Wales! Good news….the hotel is only a short distance away.

to Monmouth, you’ll leave Wales and enter back into England and head towards Hereford. Riding through the cathedral city with its red sandstone buildings before travelling along quiet, undulating country lanes through small villages into Shropshire and the lovely scenery of the Hope Valley. Re-joining the main road, it’s a short journey into the market town of Shrewsbury.

Today sees a gentle cycle through the medieval town of Shrewsbury, with its Tudor centre lined with half-timbered houses, you then cross the River Severn which loops the town.
Heading north along a quiet country road your route travels through the small market towns of Wem and Whitchurch. The profile is mainly flat allowing the miles to float by quickly. It’s then into a quiet corner of Cheshire on main roads and the most built-up area of our journey. By-passing busy Warrington and Wigan you’ll pedal on fast flat roads into Lancashire and on to your hotel just outside Preston.

The roads are primarily flat as you pass through historic Lancaster, cross into Cumbria, and pedal on through the market town of Kendal, renowned for its mint cake! The picturesque hills of the Lake District rise to your left as you head towards Shap Fell at over 1000 feet. It’s a long gradual climb. But for every uphill ride, there is a wonderful downhill glide, and this twisting descent takes you close to Penrith in Cumbria’s Eden Valley. Pedal past the castle and on to Carlisle for a well deserved nights rest.
Cycle distance: approx. 94 miles
Included:
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner

Continuing north to the border with Scotland, and pass the famous blacksmith’s forge in the village of Gretna Green. The journey is mainly along rolling, quiet back-roads with gentle climbs. The scenery is very picturesque with the lush green hills of the Southern Uplands to each side as you cycle northeast through small towns and villages.
You’ll pass through the small town of Sanquar, home to Britain’s oldest post-office, and a great old toll booth; look out for memorials and plaques in this region commemorating the Covenanters who rebelled against the religious dictates of the Stuart Kings in the late 1600’s.
Nearing Kilmarnock, the roads grow busier though it’s only a short journey to your hotel in the second largest town in Ayrshire.
Cycling distance: approx 94 miles

The undulating road climbs and descends as you cycle along the coast to Gourock, for a ferry trip across the short strait to Dunoon. Continuing north you’ll pedal through beautiful forest and along the shores of Loch Eck. This section is mainly flat, until reaching the shores of Loch Fyne, where you’re greeted with a stiff but scenic climb to the top of the loch. You’ll overnight in the coastal hamlet of Cairndow.
Cycling distance: approx 72 miles

Coming to Inverary, this marks the start of a long climb of the Highlands! Coming to Loch Awe, admire the ruins of Castle Kilchurn as you ride around the head of the loch. Heading west to the coast again, you’ll cross the iron bridge at Connell, with great views of Loch Etive to your right and the Isle of Mull across the sea on your left. The route now is stunning, as you follow the coast road with views of desolate beaches, hilly islands and peninsulas across the water. In good weather you can even catch a glimpse of the higher peaks inland. Skirting the forests of Appin, you’ll head north continuing along the coast to Ballachulish – where the road splits off to the famous Glencoe. Your route travels straight, crossing Loch Leven, and along the banks of Loch Linnhe, enjoying a much-deserved flat run into Fort William. In clear weather you may be rewarded with views of Ben Nevis and the surrounding high peaks. Exiting Fort William with a climb out of town towards Spean Bridge and the impressive Commando Memorial. The day draws to a beautiful close as you ride the undulating route alongside Loch Lochy.

Cycling alongside the Nessie you’ll be treated to some beautiful views of this large, deep, freshwater loch. Passing Invermoriston and the ancient Urquhart Castle, makes for a picturesque backdrop against the darkness of the loch.
At Drumnadrochit you leave Loch Ness and head north again, uphill to Beauly, skirting the end of the Moray Firth, and on to Dingwall. Your hotel lies a few miles further north, in the small town of Evanton.
Cycling distance: approx 57 miles
Included:
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: hotel (twin share basis)
Evanton to Thurso
The last and longest day of cycling! The terrain is challenging, bleak, and the roads are almost deserted! With plenty of miles in your legs now, you should be feeling up for the challenge – and the end is in sight!
Starting with a climb through moorland, you are treated to a great early morning view above Dornoch Forth, and a fantastic descent to Bonar Bridge. The road continues up as you climb for over 30 miles through the moors. There are a few flat stretches which help to break up the terrain and it’s not too steep; it can be quite exposed, yet the scenery is impressive. Look out for herds of red deer and birds of prey such as osprey or even the elusive golden eagle. You’ll pass several small lochs and some forested areas, and take time simply enjoy the scenery. From the top of the climb it’s a welcomed sweeping descent to the North Coast, where you’ll head east, witnessing glimpses of beautiful, deserted golden beaches. The roads are flatter now but this short section can feel very tough in strong winds. Passing the power station at Dounreay marks you approach into Thurso. This small town comes as a slight culture shock after all the miles you have covered on near-deserted roads in the last two days. Your hotel is a welcomed sight.
Cycling distance: approx 107 miles
Included:
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: hotel (twin share basis)
Thurso to John O’Groats
From Thurso the excitement builds as you pick up mileage signs for John O’Groats! A few miles from Thurso the route passes through the high sand-dunes of Dunnet Bay, with its beautiful white-sand beach and renowned birdlife. You’ll take a short detour onto Dunnet Head, cycling the narrow road to Scotland’s most northerly point, and enjoy claiming that achievement too! You’ll then return and pedal the remaining miles along a fairly flat road to John O’Groats and your Finish Line! After time to celebrate and sign the official End to End book, we’ll load up the bikes and head south to Inverness. A great Scottish town to celebrate your epic achievements with your fellow team-mates!
