With the impressively preserved 13th-century estuary fortress of Conwy Castle looming behind you, your bike journey starts on Conwy Quay. Following the beautiful coastline  with views of Anglesey and the Menai Straits, your route winds it’s way into the heart of Snowdonia. Cycling along cycle paths through the foothills of the Carnedd Mountain Range you will experience the amazing scenery of the Welsh countryside leading you towards the base of Snowdon through farmlands and villages. Skirting by the shores of Llyn Padarn which marks the final stages of your cycling leg into the village of Llanberis, at the foot of Snowdon and rich in industrial heritiage. Here you will have the chance to enjoy a packed lunch with the backdrop of the National Park before starting your swapping your bike for boots to begin your ascent of Snowdon.

The summit of Snowdon will reward you with spectacular 360 degree views over the neighbouring rugged peaks, beautiful mountain lakes and even extending to the coastline and beyond on a clear day.  There’s evidence of ancient fossils just beneath the summit area too – proof that this whole area was underwater in a semi-tropical sea millions of years ago! Following your obligatory photo snap, your descent takes you down the same path before arriving back at base where you’ll be greeted at the finish line with a well-deserved celebratory drink. You are then welcome to make your way home, overnight in Llanberis or we can transfer you back to Conwy if you wish.

Why go

Homegrown multi activity adventure

Since the COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on local communities and livelihoods, we’re keen to promote adventures on home ground particularly to help support the local tourism industry here whilst also giving you the chance to get out and explore our incredible Snowdonia landscapes in a safe and fun manner.

This multi activity has been designed to deliver an amazing experience and showcase the some of the most stunning landscapes across Snowdonia whilst also giving you the chance to step out of your comfort zone and gain a greater understanding of the mountains, local environments and communities. Plus you can experience different activities and cover 35 miles across Snowdonia under your own power via bikes & boots.

Bike

Bike and helmet hire are included with this event inclusive of a Radial hybrid bike with disc brakes. Rest assured any equipment that we supply will be hygienically cleaned and sanitised and was not used 72 hours before you use it and will not be used for the next 72 hours.

You’re welcome to bring you own bike and/or helmet if you wish. We recommend a road or hybrid bike, or if you are used to riding a mountain bike over long distances on well surfaced roads and cycle paths, then feel free to bring a MTB. Though please ensure your bike is in good working order and not something that’s been sitting idle in the garage for years.

Distance: Approx 26 miles – 40kms

Time: Approx 2 – 2.5 hours in total

Terrain: Along cycle paths and roads

Please ensure you are familiar with the Highway Code for cycling given that you will be travelling along some roadways. For more info, please click here.

Bike support

You will be accompanied by a Cycling Leader and support vehicle for the bike section of this challenge.

Our support vehicle/s will carry a range of spares along with a full tool kit. However, it is impossible for us to carry spares for every eventuality so it is vital that if you are bringing you own bike that you check your it is in good working order or have it serviced by a bike shop. Also, if you are bringing your own bike, please bring your own puncture repair kit and spare inner tubes suitable for your bike. Inner tubes will be supplied for our hire bikes if needed.

It is a condition of travel that you wear a helmet at all times whilst cycling and with the straps done up!

Hike

Your hike of Snowdon will be via the Llanberis Path. The support vehicle will be in Llanberis allowing you access to kit and also bike storage whilst you are on the mountain.

The Llanberis Path is the longest and most gradual of the six main paths to the summit of Snowdon, and offers fantastic views of Cwm Brwynog, Llanberis and over the Menai straights towards Anglesey.

The path mainly follows the Snowdon Mountain Railway track, and goes by Hebron, Halfway and Clogwyn stations. Before the railway was opened in 1896, visitors employed guides to lead them to the summit along this path on mule-back.

A remarkable geological feature can be seen from the Llanberis Path, the Clogwyn Du’r Arddu syncline. The syncline was formed over thousands of years, as the earth moved and transformed horizontal deposits into vertical layers of rock.

Distance: 9 miles – 14.5km (ascent & descent)

Ascent: 3,199 feet – 975 metres

Time: Approx 5 – 6 hours in total

Terrain: Rocky mountain trail
